Buzz! posts on hiatus

After posting the very first buzz! brunch! post a few days ago, I realised that the app where I edit the photos on my phone has gone pro and that I can only post small pics with its trial version. Not fun. Buzz! postings are temporary out of order as a result.

Anyway, I was on the bus the other day, it stopped at the traffic and there was this kid sitting in a car next to the bus. He kept opening and shutting his window because there was this dried up white bird poo stain on the window. It was a really long and big splash (not to be gross, but you can imagine it runs from near the top of the window to the bottom). The kid was obviously trying to "clean" the bird poo by pushing the window down, and back up to check if it was still there.

It was dried and really, drawing the windows up and down doesn't do anything, though I as a kid did push the windows up and down when it rained, just to see if the part where the window goes into can act like a squeegee. It doesn't. So the next thing the kid does was to reach his hand out the open window and scrap off the bird poo off with his fingers. He then held his hand really close to his face to inspect it and just when I was dreading the next moment of when he would stick his tongue out and lick it...

... the bus moved and I was deprived of the ending. Thank goodness.

So with that charming little story in mind, let's move on to food :)

Oh look! Bird...!

That was at the Hong Kong airport, at..

Mei Sum~ My dad loves the food there, and I must say, their roast goose was pretty tasty =D Look at the oil at the top coating the crispy skin! Yum~

Are you still thinking of bird poo? Gosh, I hope not. For the record, it looks nothing like the wonton noodle soup you see here :D

I've heard about this dessert place in Hong Kong that sells mainly mango desserts. This was many years back and probably isn't so "in" anymore, but I still liked visiting it. Dessert's my thing!

From Hong Kong Trip
Hui Lau Shan. It's actually a chain dessert place and can be seen everywhere. Bad marketing, it's going to become like Krispy Kreme in Sydney- open in so many locations that no one visits it anymore.

From Hong Kong Trip
For tourists like me, it's ok though~ this was their egg white custard with bird's nest.

My hotel room, all to myself. My parents shared an adjoining room with a double bed, so I get two beds. Don't like sleeping next to the wall when I'm not in my room though, so naturally, I picked the bed near the window :) Nice view of tall buildings and traffic.

I think I took a photo every morning, just to see how different it gets..

That night, we wandered into a random shopping mall, wondering what to do about dinner. Not being familiar with the place at all, we walked into a Shanghai restaurant called the King's Dumpling.

From Hong Kong Trip
Steaming hot XLBs, served with thinly sliced ginger and vinegar. And by thinly sliced, it was almost paper thin~

From Hong Kong Trip
King's Dumpling right, so we had to try the dumplings~

From Hong Kong Trip
Bao was random. My dad chose it cos he likes black sesame.

From Hong Kong Trip
Aw come on, surely you're not still thinking about bird poo? :D

From Hong Kong Trip
Red bean XLBs. Pretty similar to Din Tai Feng in Sydney. Which reminds me, I gotta use that entertainment book voucher there. 25% off~ ikuzelet'sgo!

The next morning, parents took me to this place, upstairs of a hotel. It's their favourite place because the food is good and there's no msg (tested during their last visit to Hong Kong- my mum ate the food there often and didn't get any allergic reactions).

From Hong Kong Trip
Dear daddy was always craving congee for breakfast, even back in Sydney. His wish came true~

From Hong Kong Trip
Fish congee~

From Hong Kong Trip
And this is what yum cha should be like: early in the morning at breakfast time, about 7-8am, with congee.

From Hong Kong Trip
I have no idea what this is, but hidden underneath that flab is...

From Hong Kong Trip
Duck claws. I actually like this better than chicken feet. It's been stewed really nicely.

From Hong Kong Trip
If congee was my dad's ideal breakfast, this was my mum's. Her "leng yu" balls (and my dad ordered it in congee form, which made my mum complain because she wanted it just plain). I actually have no idea what "leng yu" is in English, but it's apparently a fish that cannot be eaten in Sydney. It has lots of tiny bones and it takes way too much time to fillet it.

Tastes like cuttlefish ball to me... ^^''

We went to the same place for lunch again T T My parents like to get stuck in one place when they know it's good. Overall bill? Less than $4AU per person.

Yay for cheap hong kong food. Hm, haven't had goose in a while, I wonder why goose isn't served in most restaurants here.

What a charming way to start a blog entry by the way..
